A busy lifestyle can lead to a toxic lifestyle. In a quest to have healthy lifestyles, we keep thinking about our weight and nothing else. To stay fit and healthy, we should not just think of our weight but our skin too. The food we intake and the drinks have an impact on our surface. Here seven common foods that cause skin problems:
- Dairy Products
Milk, cheese, yogurt, etc. are some dairy products that we consume regularly. We use these products in any recipe. But, excess consumption of dairy products can cause eczema and acne. Growth hormones are present in dairy products that can cause skin problems. One should reduce the amount they consume or can replace it with almond milk.
- Breakfast Cereals
Not only dairy products are the culprit behind our skin problems, but any food we take also has an impact on it. Breakfast cereals are high in sugar, which breaks down collagen in our skin. Cereals can affect our skin as some of the experts say that the way cereals are manufactured can make it toxic. You can easily replace these sugar-coated cereals with whole-grain meals like oatmeal and corn flakes.

- Rice Cakes
A low-calorie snack that you can munch on anytime. Rice contains a high glycemic index that many “white foods “contain. It can cause a spike in your blood pressure. There is a definite link between high glycemic index and acne, and medical research has proved it. So, if you love having rice cakes, have them with peanut butter or fresh fruits as it contains a low glycemic index.
Fruit juices are healthy, but they are high in sugar and low in fiber. Just like in cereals, these sugars can break collagen in our skin making it rough and prematurely aged.
We can replace juices with whole fruit. You can take an apple instead of apple juice as it will provide fiber instead of just sugar. Whole fruits have a low glycemic index also.
- Processed Meat
Processed Meats are high in sodium and nitrite. Nitrites just like sugar can destroy collagen in your skin. Also, too much sodium can dehydrate your skin and make it look rough and aged. Bacon, deli meats, and other processed meats can cause your skin problems.
Sodium enriched food products contribute to acne and also dehydrate your skin and body. Sushi seems to be a healthy snack, but it contains rice, that has a high glycemic index and also is high in sodium causing your skin problems. And, when these sushis are a dunk in soy sauce, they are high in sodium. Sodium can also affect your skin by bloating and puffiness calling it a “sushi Face”.
Alcohol seems to be beneficial for health, but too much consumption can dehydrate you and even your skin. It can also worsen your acne. Overindulgence can cause you problems, but limited-use can protect your skin.
I know the whole list of foods was counted to be healthy, but just like two sides of the coins, every other thing has a different side like all of these foods. Replaceable foods can be replaced, but moderate consumption can also help you in it and will be beneficial for your skin.
