Oil extracted from different parts of a plant like a stem, root, flowers, leaves, and bark, when reduced is called essential oil. The type of plant it is extracted from decides the nature of the oil and the processes it can be used for. Each oil has distinct features from the others and medicinal benefits. Thus, it is important to realize which oil is to be used for a specific application. Following are eight unique uses of essential oils:
1. An instant boost of energy
A few drops of Rosemary oil can be used to give an immediate boost of energy whenever you’re feeling exhausted or lethargic. It can be used with the help of a diffuser or by dabbing a small cloth in a little amount of oil.
2. Strengthening the immune system
You can boost your immunity by using an ordinary kitchen herb like Oregano. Rubbing the soles of your feet with a little bit of Oregano essential oil can cause an overall increase in immune resistance.
3. Fresheners for the shower
A small quantity of Lavender, Rosemary, Geranium, Grapefruit or Lemon oil keeps your shower from developing an odor and makes sure it smells nice.
4. As a Hair Tonic
A carrier oil when mixed with a blend of essential oils can be used to improve the health and strength of your hair. A few drops of Rosehip, Thyme, Lavender, Rosemary, Ginger and Jojoba oils in a carrier oil when massaged into the scalp and left to rest for about 30 minutes leave the hair feeling naturally nourished. This should be repeated a couple of times in a month for better results.
5. Nourishing the Skin
Essential oils form an important part of the daily beauty routines for many people around the world; Jojoba, Lavender, Geranium, and Rosehip being the best for this job. A mixture of these with lukewarm honey or a carrier oil should be applied to the skin for 10-15 minutes. This leaves the skin feeling brighter and free from any impurities.
6. To keep Mosquitos away.
Essential oils like that of Clove, Citronella and Cedarwood oils can be used to keep the mosquitos away with the help of a diffuser. A natural mosquito repellant mixture can be formed by adding the oils to coconut oil and using it as a lotion on the skin.
7. Headache Relief
A few drops each of Peppermint, Eucalyptus, and Lavender oil when mixed in a 1 to 6 ratio with a carrier oil and massaged on the temple, behind the ears, below the nose and on the reverse side of the neck can provide instant relief from headaches.
8. Keeping the Fridge Smelling Fresh
Wipe your fridge with Lime, Grapefruit or Lemongrass essential oils after cleaning it to make sure it keeps smelling fresh.
